Brand - SUPREME

Supreme is one of the most recognised names in the street wear scene and is arguably the most sought after brand in street wear scene to date. It was first established by a man called James Jabbia in 1994 and is a New York based brand. Since then they have seen steady growth and popularity as a brand and as a result opened a LA store in 2004 which is twice the size as their original New York store. Their main target audience is the skateboarding and hip hop communities but originally started of as a skating company. They currently have 7 stores worldwide, 2 in USA and 5 in Japan, They also sell though other retailers such as The Hideout Store, Dover Street Market and HIP in the UK.

They are well known for being a very limited and exclusive brand which is very hard to get hold off. As a result of this people que and camp for days to get the latest Supreme drops on release dates and even pay up to 5x the original price for Supreme items on Ebay. It would have to be said that they are most well known for there large selection of snapbacks and their box logo hoodies and tees.

Supreme is becoming increasingly popular over the years and has seen recent increase in popularity through Tyler The Creator a rapper from the US. This may upset some Supreme wears who have been loyal to the brand and are now seeing a lot more people wearing Supreme making it less exclusive and as underground as it was this time last year. As the brand is  becoming more and more popular and more people are wearing their clothing some people may be put off from wearing the brand as its more of a commercial brand than they may be comfortable wearing. Is Supreme going down the same path that other exclusive street wear brands have, such as BAPE?

With the recent rumours of a Supreme store being opened in Soho London it is certainly looking more and more like this may be a possibility for Supreme. As it becomes more popular and easier to access how long will it be before everyone is wearing something Supreme and it is no longer a under ground brand that it currently is? Only time will tell and although i am excited for the Soho addition to Supremes store collection, I am concerned with a correlation it may have with commercialisation of the brand? We'l have to see.

What do you think is Supreme heading down the same path as Bape or are they different and will remain a well known proud street wear brand for years to come? Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
